Paul Mativenga

Paul Mativenga holds the Chair in Multiscale and Sustainable Manufacturing in the School of Engineering at The University of Manchester, UK, which he joined, then UMIST, in 2002. He is Director of the Laser Processing Research Laboratory and Head of the Manufacturing Group, has served as Head of Department, and currently leads strategy for Social Responsibility and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in the Faculty of Science and Engineering; he is also a member of the University’s Board of Governors. He holds a PhD in Manufacturing Engineering and an MSc in Advanced Manufacturing Systems and Technology from the University of Liverpool.

His research covers manufacturing at different length and speed scales, including machining science, micro manufacturing, laser processing and additive manufacturing, alongside resource-efficient, low-carbon and green manufacturing, recycling, energy demand reduction and the circular economy. He is a member of CIRP, the International Academy for Production Engineering, and serves as an associate editor for Elsevier and Sage journals.
