Filippo Vella

Dr. Filippo Vella is a Researcher at the Institute for High Performance Computing and Networking (ICAR) of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR), based in Palermo. His research activity focuses on robotics, intelligent systems, and advanced sensing technologies, with particular emphasis on robot perception, sensor integration, and data processing for autonomous systems.

He obtained his Master’s degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Palermo, where he also completed his PhD, concentrating on topics related to artificial intelligence and robotic systems. His academic background combines solid expertise in software engineering, machine learning, and real-time systems.

At ICAR–CNR, Dr. Vella is actively involved in national and European research projects, contributing to the design and development of cognitive and adaptive robotic platforms. His work includes the development of algorithms for environment perception, human–robot interaction, and intelligent control, often applied to real-world scenarios such as inspection, monitoring, and service robotics.

Dr. Vella has authored and co-authored several scientific publications in international journals and conference proceedings, addressing topics such as robot sensing, AI-based decision systems, and autonomous behaviour generation. He also collaborates closely with academic and industrial partners, supporting technology transfer and applied research activities within the CNR framework.
