Donatella Cerniglia

Donatella Cerniglia is Associate Professor of mechanical measurement and manufacturing engineering in the Department of Engineering at the University of Palermo, Italy, a position she has held since 2015. She earned her PhD in Mechanical Construction from the University of Palermo in 2002, after a research fellowship at the Center for Nondestructive Evaluation of The Johns Hopkins University in the United States. Her research covers non-destructive testing, laser ultrasonics, structural health monitoring, numerical modelling of ultrasound propagation, experimental mechanics and quality control, and she is responsible for the university’s Ultrasound laboratory. She has been scientific coordinator of the EU FP7-SME project INTRAPID on innovative inspection techniques for laser powder deposition quality control, and has led research contracts with the Transportation Technology Center Inc.

in Pueblo, Colorado, on the non-destructive inspection of railway components. Her work has been recognised with a Materials Evaluation Fellowship Award Paper and IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium awards. She also serves as Erasmus coordinator and mobility delegate for the mechanical engineering programme.
